Someone has got to explain Mandy Moore to me...
O.k...I don't understand Mandy Moore's place in the world. Why is she famous. She's not into showing boobs, she can't act, and she doesn't sing anymore... She's kinda like a plain Katie Holmes-Lite to me...and considering the current circumstances...that's a pretty awful insult. Am I missing something?

I'm no fan of Mands but " a plain Katie Holmes"? Thats just mean. You can't get any more plain than Kat.
See? I'm seriously missing something with Mandy...I think the girl is fugly...before Tom I actually used to think Katie was borderline cute.

Like I said I'm no fan of Mandy. I never saw the appeal and was disturbed by her prepubescent debut Candy or whatever the fuck it was called. But, like Reese Witherspoon, I find her a lot cuter with the brown hair. Weird, maybe I'm a Brunette man after all.
Although I always and still do find Kat Holmes mancid.

anyway, i like mandy because she's not like the other starlets running around talking about their boobs and posing for maxim. her music sucks, yes, but she totally wins points for the movie "saved." plus she's dating zach braff so that gives her some indie cred.
beetlesque the overexposed get all the hype. the pre nuptual sane brittany and jess were americas sweethearts they were exulted and loved for their vurtue. now they are splashed all over the shop for being too sexy or suddenly very unsexy. America loves Mandy for her virtue and they obsess and love to hate (with passion and glea) Paris, Brittany and jess ooh and lets not forget Tara Reed!!. Im not saying mandy is more famous im saying she is more loved because of american values. there isnt anything wrong with it at all. What was wrong was i felt uncomfortable in the USA if i was remotely sexy. In australia me and plenty of other attractive mid 20's girls look sexy/feminine on a daily basis and are outgoing and cheeky and its a good thing. we dont get judged we get a bit of jealousy but thats all and jealousy is a compliment in itself.

Thanks for clarifying (and this is not a sarcastic response). You're pointing out that black/white extremism that is prevalent in the US. Either you're Mandy Moore wholesome good or you're a whore. Sexy falls somewhere inbetween and you're absolutely right, we Americans are uncomfortable with women who are comfortable with their bodies and can be sexy without being trampy/vampy/surgically altered. It frightens us. ;)
I thought I was the only one who didn't get Mandy Moore. Even when she was a blonde popster she was always the Poor Man's Britney/Christina/Jessica Simps and now she's a brunette actress Poor Man's Katie Holmes/Jena Malone/Reese W. Just Blandy McBland.
I have to add that I don't think a large majority of peeople in the U.S. love Mandy Moore at all. I bet most people couldn't tell you her name, and would confuse her with someone else.
I think she's another one of those starlets that Hollywood-types seem to like and so they give them lots of chances to succeed, despite the fact that they aren't exactly setting the world on fire. And the celebrity media go along with it, trying to help promote them until it eventually becomes futile.
Gretchen Mol went through this some years ago, and now she's back, but it's still not clear if she's going to be a star in the traditional sense.
I think the question here is, why is Hollywood so set on hyping Mandy? My suspicion is that she's well-connected. Does she have a famous producer or director mom or dad? She must, beause I agree she's not that pretty and downright dull.
Can I just say my readers are SO above par! Only you guys could have an intelligent conversation about Mandy Moore! I love you guys :)
I agree with you Jack...she might be wholesome...but she's got nothing else. She'd be a good American Idol...that's about it. Good point Uncertain Woman...Gretchen Mol went nowhere no matter how hard the industry pushed...personally, I was never able to get over her name...

I am not a fan of her music and I have only seen her in one movie, "Saved," which was GREAT. So maybe she can act a bit. See the movie.
